Here are some fun tips and tricks for Gardening, give them a try!

Save Your Tree Trunk:
Protect your trees with a 2 liter plastic soda bottle.  Cut off the top and bottom of your soda bottle.  Slice the cylinder down the entire length.  You can now wrap this around your trunk.  It will curl around the tree and stay in place.  It will now have some protection from your mower or weed trimmer string.

Use a wheeled Trash Can for your potting soil:
It will be easier to move around to where it is needed.  It will keep the soil dry between uses.  It will also keep out pests.

Contain Spreading Plants:
We all have a plant that we love that seems to spread to fast.  Here is a nifty trick to contain those that spread by thier root system.  Cut the bottom off of a gallon, five gallon or appropriate size plastic container.  Dig a whole the size of the container and sink into the ground until just the top lip is visible.  Refill with soil and add your plant.  One the roots reach the plastic the can expand no more.

Bulb Storage:
An easy convenient way to store bulbs is egg cartons!  Not only to they keep them seperated  they have ventilation holes that help prevent rot.  You can easily label each bulb with the color, variety or both on the top of the carton.

Slug Control:
Crush egg shells and scatter them around those plants that slugs seem to love.  The abrasivness of the shells will make it uncomfortable for the slugs to climb over, they will last quite some time but when they do break down they add nutrients to the soil.

Deer Control:
Mix 1 egg, 1/2 cup of milk, 1 tablespoon of cooking oil, 1 tablespoon of dish detergent and 1 gallon of water together.  Use a spray bottle to apply to plants every two weeks.
